New Risk Management Guidance – Lithium-ion Batteries

As the world is transitioning from the use of fossil fuels to renewable forms of energy, there's an accelerated dependence on the use of lithium-ion batteries. Our new Lithium-ion Risk Management Guidance is now available, providing details of best practice risk management from vehicle chargers to batteries in storage and transit. This guidance will continue to evolve and be added to as new research and standards become available.

Escape of Water Joint Code of Practice (EOW JCoP)

This Joint Code of Practice replaces the CIREG 5th ed. Escape of Water (Construction) document. With Escape of Water (EoW) events continuing to be at a high frequency, the objective of this Code is to help reduce losses associated with EoW events and subsequent project delays during both the pre-construction (design, tender and procurement) and construction phases. It outlines ways in which the industry can tackle the root causes of the EoW problem and ways to mitigate the effects, should an incident occur.

Although the focus of this document is on construction, contractors all risk (CAR), it has been created with the finished asset and associated property risk in mind. To ensure the document is relevant and can be fully complied with the document has been endorsed by the Construction Insurance Risk Engineers Group (CIREG), London Engineering Group (LEG) and Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE).

The most notable features of the Code include:

• Tightening up the requirements of developers, designers and contractors to focus on risk minimisation through design
• Mandating the incorporation and operation of Active Automatic Flow Monitoring Shutoff (AAFMS) devices in specific areas of the water system on high-rise (5+ storey) projects, where higher severity losses have been apparent
• Additional considerations and requirements for modular bathrooms, irrigation, attenuation and other systems
• Guidance to require the use of a Water Emergency Response Plan (WERP) and provide guidance on the content of this
