New EU Legislation for Vans used for Hire & Reward

New European Union (EU) Motor Legislation is due to come into force 21 May 2022. This change will mean operators that have vehicles (vans & cars) that are being used to carry goods for Hire & Reward within the EU (plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) and over 2.5t gross vehicle weight (including a trailer) will now require a Standard International Goods Vehicle Operating Licence (O Licence).

If any of your clients operate vans or cars for Hire & Reward within the EU (or other countries noted above) they may require an O Licence (or make sure they're accounted for within the number of vehicles on their existing Standard International O licence), otherwise they may fall foul of the legislation and any subsequent sanctions.

How can you help?

If you do have existing or prospective Aviva clients that have vans or cars that are used to carry goods for Hire & Reward, they should be aware of this change, but if not, they may value this information. If you're able to, please help us find out whether they use their vehicles overseas in the territories noted above and if so, let us know by advising the Aviva underwriter dealing with that case and if possible provide the details of their O Licence.
