Will you insure a vehicle that has been previously written off?
If we are asked to provide cover for a previously written off vehicle, we need to ascertain which category of write off the vehicle is.
- Category A - Scrap only - Vehicles which have been written off in this category should not be going back on the road and therefore we need to decline any form of cover.
- Category B - Break only - Vehicles which have been written off in this category should not be going back on the road and therefore we need to decline any form of cover.
- Category C (Valid from 01/10/2017) - Repairable - No formal evidence (including MOT Cert) is needed for us to provide cover for vehicles which have been classed as Category C write-off. Vehicles will continue to follow their alligned annual MOT requirements.
- Category D (Valid from 01/10/2017)- Repairable - No formal evidence (including MOT Cert) is needed for us to provide cover for vehicles which have been classed as Category D write-off. Vehicles will continue to follow their alligned annual MOT requirements.
- Category X - No formal evidence is needed for us to provide cover for vehicles in this situation.
- Category S (Valid from 01/10/2017) - Structural (Repairable) This category replaces 'Category C'. The vehicle has suffered damage to the structural frame/chassis. While repairable, the insurer has decided not to repair the vehicle.
- Category N (Valid from 01/10/2017) - Non Structural (Repairable) This category replaces 'Category D'. The vehicle has not suffered damage to the structural frame/chassis but the insurer has decided not to repair the vehicle.
- Stolen and Recovered Vehicles - Where a vehicle has been given a Q plate after being stolen and recovered, it is as a result of the fact it cannot be positively identified - e.g. the chassis number has been removed from the vehicle, in these circumstances we should decline to cover the vehicle.
