Important changes to account settlements

To streamline our processes, Aviva will no longer accept cheques in payment of account settlements from January 2019. Why are we making this change?

The administration cost of handling cheque payments, both for Aviva and yourselves, is much higher and less efficient than managing electronic payments i.e. BACS or Direct Debit. In line with other organisations, Aviva is phasing out cheques as a method of payment by the end of 2018. 

Why are we making this change? 

  • Electronic payments are more efficient than cheque payments 
  • Electronic payments are considerably cheaper for both yourselves and Aviva to handle e.g. bank charges, postal costs  
  • Electronic payments are easier for you to track making your bank account reconciliation
  • Removes delays and the possibility of your payment going missing in the post
  • This is in line with Aviva’s environmental commitment.

What do I need to do? 

If you currently settle your Aviva account by cheque you need to make arrangements with your bank to make payment electronically from January 2019. 

Payment By BACS 

Payment by BACS should be made to the bank account number quoted below. Please include your Aviva Statement Site Number and [if applicable] your ABC Payment Reference when making payment.

Payment by Direct Debit 

Direct Debit is the cheapest, most efficient way to settle your account and is Aviva’s preferred payment method. When paying by direct debit you are still in complete control of what you settle to Aviva and when; you advise us, via the Aviva Broker Collections Portal, of the amount you wish to settle. We collect the payment directly from your bank account on an agreed date; you don’t need to generate a payment with your bank. You are completely covered by the conditions of the Direct Debit Guarantee.
