Marine Freight

Introducing Aviva Marine Freight cover

Our Marine Freight insurance cover can help with your client's contractual liability for loss or damage to their customers' goods in transit. It’s available for UK domiciled carriers and bailees, including hauliers, warehouse-keepers, couriers and freight forwarders. And, it has a range of optional extensions to cater for individual business needs.

Why do clients need Marine Freight cover?

Marine freight insurance covers most methods of transport. Its original purpose was to provide cover for goods being moved by boat, but now it includes air, road and rail.

Here’s why it might be an important part of your client’s cover:

  • Marine Freight cover gives protection for claims made against your clients for loss or damage during transit as a result of negligence - this could be due to an accident involving the lorry used to transport the goods, a fire onboard a container ship or damage caused by a fault with a refrigerated trailer or container.

  • Taking out Marine Freight insurance could help to protect your client’s company from losing revenue and promote the company’s accountability to potential customers.

Why choose Aviva's Marine Freight cover?

  • Breadth - our cover caters for UK-domiciled carriers and bailees, including hauliers, warehouse keepers, couriers and freight forwarders
  • Recognition by industry association conditions of carriage and storage - such as the Road Haulage Association, statutory conventions such as the CMR and where required, All Risks and Common Law Liability
  • Driver's personal effects - these can be covered up to £1,000.
  • Transport Equipment and Own Goods - these can be covered up to £25,000 cover for any one incident of loss or damage
  • Wide range of cover - our insurance also covers debris removal, goods stored temporarily during transit (up to 30 days) and goods in the custody or control of subcontractors
