Keeping you and your clients secure: Why multi-factor authentication (MFA) matters

By Robin Gwynne, UK Cyber Security Lead

Protecting our customers is at the heart of everything we do at Aviva. That commitment extends to how we work with you, our trusted financial advisers, to make sure client data and accounts remain secure in an increasingly digital world. Multi‑factor authentication (MFA) is a key part of that protection.

An extra layer of protection where it matters most

Passwords alone are no longer sufficient to protect sensitive financial information. MFA adds an additional verification step when signing in, helping to prevent unauthorised access even if login details are compromised. This significantly reduces the risk of account takeover and fraud, protecting both your business and our shared clients.

Supporting trust and confidence

Clients expect strong security as standard from organisations handling their financial futures. By using MFA, you help demonstrate a clear commitment to safeguarding client information and maintaining high professional standards. This

reinforces confidence in your advice, and in the platforms you use.

Helping reduce disruption and risk

Security incidents can be time‑consuming and disruptive for advisers and clients alike. MFA is a simple, effective measure that lowers the likelihood of incidents, helping you focus on what matters most: delivering great outcomes for your clients.

Designed to be simple and practical

We recognise the importance of keeping processes straightforward. Modern MFA solutions are quick and intuitive to use. Signing up to MFA shouldn’t take you longer than two minutes, and you’ll be delivering meaningful security benefits.

Strengthen your account security with two‑step verification

Two-step verification will soon be mandatory, set it up now to protect you and your clients - you can either use email or SMS verification to complete two‑step verification on the Aviva Adviser Platform.

Tip: Once two‑step verification is set up, register your device as Trusted to skip verification in the future.

How do I set it up?

  1. Log in to Aviva Adviser. Don't have an Aviva Adviser account? You'll need to register here.
  2. Go to My Account in the My Services menu.
  3. Select Two-step verification.
  4. Choose text message or the email option.
  5. Select Set up two-step verification.
  6. Enter a UK mobile number or use your account email.  Please note: This can't be a shared email address, as that would compromise the security of your account.
  7. Enter the verification code.
  8. You’ll be all set up and should see a confirmation screen.

Important reminder: Please don't share your account or account details, and make sure you comply with our Terms & Conditions.

By taking this simple step together we help protect what matters most, our shared clients and the trust they place in us.
