AIG Life's Protection business update

As we have reviewed the core AIG Life UK propositions, there is a lot of similarity with the core Aviva propositions. As such, our go forward proposition will be the current Aviva branded products and we will close the existing AIG Life branded products to new business in a timely manner.

We remain fully committed to understanding what additional learnings we use to further strengthen the Aviva proposition across the next stages of integration. 

High-Net-Worth/Premier service will is still  available for some distributors who can access AIG Life’s proposition.

This varies by distributor. For most intermediaries, all AIG Life products have closed to new quotes from 23.59 on 15th August 2024. For some high-net-worth specialists products will remain open so that unique to AIG Life features can still be accessed. For partners, AIG Life products will remain available as per contractual arrangements.

Aviva has a full suite of individual protection products which most advisers are familiar with which cover the same needs and target market. Find out more here.

Here is a summary of how pipeline will be treated depending on what stage it is at, unless we have confirmed that you are exempt. 

New quotes - quotes will no longer be avialable after 23.59 on 15th August 2024

Quote - all quotes will remain valid for 30 days

Applications - applications already submitted will be valid for 6 months. The last date for applications to be placed on risk will be 23.59 on 15th February 2025

Applications in the pipeline can still be tracked in the usual way

No, quotes and application terms offered will be honoured.

Pipeline management continues as normal. Updates will be available through the AIG portal and via email from the usual mailbox, all coming from AIG Life until further notice.

Commission will continue to be paid at its current rate as long as it's due.

This group is currently closed to additional firms.

If your firm still has access to AIG Life products as part of the High-Net-Worth exception, we will have confirmed that in the email communication you received.

We will keep you informed of any developments to the Aviva proposition as they happen. 

Existing customers can be assured that  there are no changes to their policies or benefits, including the points of contact. AIG Life's customers will be able to exercise their contractual flexible benefit options on AIG Life's policies.

No, you can reassure customers that they have a contractual policy in place and it will be fulfilled.

We are not directly communicating with customers at this stage. This update is for intermediaries. There are no changes for existing customers. Advisers are encouraged to give comfort to their customers that their policy is still active and will continue to protect them.

Following Aviva’s acquisition of AIG Life in April, we’ve been working closely together to understand what the integration of the business will look like. The aim is to give partners, intermediaries and customers certainty on our products open to new business going forward. The first stage of this integration is to transition towards a single product offering.

Product oversight and governance will remain and fair value assessments for all current AIG Life products will continue to be made available, updated on an annual basis and published on the AIG Life website.

Nothing changes today and there will be no change to the complaints process. Some points of contact may change as part of bringing the businesses together, and we’ll let you know of any changes as soon as we can.

There are no changes to AIG Life policies or benefits for existing customers.

Yes, servicing of existing business will continue as usual. Any necessary changes will be communicated promptly.

There are no changes to existing customers' policies or benefits. Their points of contact and the way they claim remain unchanged.

 AIG Life will not be providing quotes for schemes currently insured by Aviva.  

The online quotes system will remain open from 15th August until 15th November 2024. This will allow you to obtain re-quotes, amend previously issued quotes or accept a quote in the normal way. However all quote amendments and revisions must be placed on-risk prior to the expiry of the quote validity period stated on the quote, or 15th November, whichever is earlier.

AIG Life’s online system will remain open indefinitely to allow advisers to administer policies and conduct rate reviews.

Yes. All new business quotes issued by AIG Life prior to 23.59 on 15th August 2024  will remain valid for the quote validity period stated on the quote (usually three months). The quote must be accepted and placed on-risk by AIG Life before the 15th November 2024 or the expiry date of the quote if sooner. 

Yes. During the quote validity period, you can make simple amendments or revisions to the quote, such as changing commission, amending the benefit basis or updating membership. You should contact AIG Life in the normal way to make these changes. If the quote was obtained online, you can amend the quote online, in the normal way. Any revised quotes will be valid until the quote validty date or 15th November 2024, whichever is earlier.

After 15th August 2024, for new business AIG Life will no longer be supporting best rates requests. You can still accept the terms quoted prior to 15th August 2024.

Please continue to include AIG Life in feedback or best rates requests for rate reviews, they will review these on a case by case basis.

Please follow AIG Life’s usual on-risk process. Online quotes can be accepted online and an application form will be produced which must be fully completed, signed and returned by the client prior to the expiry of the quote validity period or 15th November, whichever is the earlier. Please contact AIG Life to accept an offline quote and their team will explain the process. If the quote has not been placed on-risk by AIG Life prior to the expiry of the quote validity period, or 15th November 2024, whichever is the earlier, the quote will expire and cannot subsequently be placed on-risk.

Yes, you will continue to be paid your commision for as long as due.

No. There is no impact on existing insured schemes. They will continue to be insured and administered by AIG Life, who will also conduct rate reviews, issue scheme accounts, collect premiums, complete individual assessments and pay claims. 

All existing AIG Life insured schemes will continue to receive a rate review quotation from AIG Life at the next rate review date, following their normal process. This process remains unchanged and all clients will remain insured with AIG Life Ltd. 

Yes, you will simply need to obtain a new business quote from Aviva. 

Aviva Group Protection Online (AGPOL) can service online quotes for schemes with 3-250 lives in most cases. If you already have an account please access in the usual way here. Or if you need to register, you can do so by following this link. The Aviva team will aim to have you up and running within 48 hours.

In the short term there are no changes to make you and your clients aware of.

Yes. There are no changes to how your existing AIG Life scheme is administered. Please continue to use AIG Life’s online services as usual.

There will be no changes to the amount of catastrophe cover in place for AIG Life clients.

Any individual assessment will continue to be managed by the AIG Life team with no impact. Employees should continue to complete online medical questionnaires, when requested.

No. The Master Trust and Excepted Life Trust template can continue to be used for all new business quotes which are placed on-risk prior to the expiry of the quote. There is also no impact on trust participation for existing AIG Life insured schemes. If an employer moves their insurance cover to a different insurer, the employer's participation in the Master Trust will cease automatically and if they have used Excepted Life Trust template then the trust will end.

No. There is no impact to AIG Life’s claims process or contact points. The AIG Life team will continue to manage all claims.
