Global engineering and nuclear company AtkinsRéalis specialise in connecting people, data and technology to transform the world’s infrastructure and energy systems.

The company employs 37,000 people worldwide, with around 12,000 of these working from the UK, working out of premises in various locations as well as offline.

In January 2024, AtkinsRéalis moved their Group Income Protection cover to Aviva, to provide financial protection for all UK employees.

Prior to moving their policy, employees had digital GP access through another provider. As part of the move to Aviva, they were able to give every employee (including dependants) the opportunity to register for the Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace services – which includes a free to access, private digital GP service. This, therefore, helped more of their employees, simplified their wellbeing package, and benefitted their business.

Employee Benefit Manager, Charlotte Morgan explains why they registered for Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace app and services

"Launching the full suite of the Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace app and wellbeing services into the business has been hugely successful. Just 12 months after launch,  46% of our UK employees have registered for the app, it’s clear they value the services available to them.

Digital GP access is something employees expect to have access to as part of their benefits package – and the service through Aviva is proving popular. We have Private Medical Insurance in place for a proportion of our employees only, so offering access to an app like this extends wellbeing services to our whole workforce and helps the UK business support the inclusive goals we have in place at AtkinsRéalis.

The finger-prick health check has been a brilliant addition to our benefits and wellbeing package. Our executive team have access to a health check, but by introducing Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace, we have been able to open up this type of benefit to a wider proportion of our workforce. It means employees can keep tabs on their health.

We’ve found the roll out process easy to manage and we’ve promoted the app and services really effectively within the business. When we first launched, we shared communications  highlighting the full extent of this benefit and, in conjunction with Aviva, we ran a launch webinar detailing the five wellbeing services on offer. We include further details about the app on our benefits portal and Wellbeing Hub so employees can always find information about what’s on offer.

When we first launched the benefit to employees in 2024, we focused our efforts on promoting the health check. This targeted approach led to a spike in requests for health check kits. Now, we send reminders to encourage employees to make use of the finger-prick health check service.

A key part of why the introduction of Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace has been so successful is the senior leadership buy-in we’ve had. Our senior leadership team are really engaged with the new wellbeing services on offer and the wellbeing of our employees. At AtkinsRéalis, we are focussed on developing a preventative approach to our benefits and wellbeing and this is something Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace helps us to achieve.

The adoption of the services has been incredibly beneficial. It’s really enhanced our benefits package and offers our employees so much."

Employee feedback

"I signed up to the nutritional consultation service as I'm really conscious how our gut health effects our wellbeing, but I feel like I have some gaps in my knowledge. I tend to eat pretty healthily overall but there's always room for improvement. The service was really easy to access on the app and I was able to select an initial appointment to suit me. You then have have follow up appointments which are arranged directly with the nutritionist assigned to you.

I learned that my diet was too high in carbohydrates and I wasn't eating enough protein and fibre which explains why I was often lacking in energy. It also highlighted that I'm not drinking enough water. Over a few appointments I made changes to my diet and the follow up sessions really helped to check-in with the impact of the tweaks and what to focus on next. I now feel more informed when I'm meal planning and as a result of a few small changes I can really feel the difference to my energy levels and mood."

"I recently used the Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace service and was throughly impressed with their experience. The platform is user-friendly, and the support I received was exceptional and quick.

I highly recommend this service to all employees looking for professional advice on short notice or to take proactive steps towards their health."

Aviva Client Relationship Manager Victoria Collins explains the value of these services to Group Protection clients

“Wellbeing is at the top of the list of priorities for many of my clients. and the fact that their employees are able to undertake a blood test in the comfort of their own home to understand what's going on with their health has been a major factor in the take up of Aviva Digicare+ Workplace.

Employers like AtkinsRéalis are caring and nurturing and want to ensure that their employees feel looked after. In addition, being able to access a GP appointment for them and their loved ones in as little as 2 hours offers a huge peace of mind that they're going to be able to get the care and support that they need.

I supported the implementation of the services with a live webinar, which was recorded and uploaded to their internal wellbeing sites for viewing when needed and supported live presentations on individual elements of the apps and services to give further insight into what these include. I provided literature for sharing internally with employees as well as regular MI reporting to show the usage and I'm always on hand to help with any queries from employees and the customer alike. It's great to see how well AtkinsRéalis are embracing these benefits.”

The Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace app and services are available with all Aviva Group Protection policies. They are provided by Square Health and are non-contractual benefits which Aviva can change or withdraw at any time. Terms and residency restrictions apply.
