Transcript for video Marlena's DigiCare+ Story
So my name’s Marlena, and I’m 25 years old, I am a Protection Adviser and I have been advising now for just over 5 years.
I speak to my clients every single day, why they need protection and why it’s so important and one day I just thought Marlena you need to take your own advice.
Because when you are fit and healthy you just never know if it’s going to stay that way or if something’s going to happen in the future.
Usually I’m quite bubbly, I’m really outgoing, I love socialising, going out with my friends. But I just started to feel more run down.
Um, so I did think actually this is not like me. So I turned to my Doctors and I told them the symptoms that I was feeling. So, one of the symptoms was, you know, migraines, nosebleeds, just feeling like you’ve got no energy whatsoever even though I’ve just woken up.
But they did kind of say, have you considered long Covid but I just felt within myself no, this is just not right how I’m feeling so I did turn to my Aviva policy for support.
So within my policy, I’ve got an amazing benefit called DigiCare+ which includes a lot of benefits such as annual health check, a private doctors appointment and also dietician sessions.
But I just thought to myself, actually the main one that I need is the annual health check, first, which is a really quick finger prick test, and then after that I’ve had a full report come back to me within days which showed me exactly what potentially could be wrong.
And I went on my app and really quickly I managed to get an appointment, which was a video appointment with a Doctor and they were able to explain to me what the results meant.
Probably one of the biggest concerns was my white blood cells, which we didn’t understand why they were so low. I felt it was really important to go and get that checked out.
So I’ve called my Doctors just to say that I did go privately to have a look at what was going on.
After I’ve explained my results roughly they actually said OK maybe you do need to be seen by a Doctor, which really did open a lot of doors because the next day I had a blood test and they’ve said we need to go and investigate it further.
Once they referred me to the hospital, they then diagnosed me with chronic fatigue syndrome.
And obviously I felt like that was actually one of my most stressful and anxious times.
I’m quite an anxious person as it is and then knowing that actually, you might not be OK was just another level of anxiety.
So within my DigiCare+ you do also have some counselling sessions included.
It was really nice just to speak to someone and again feel like you are being heard and they are listening to you.
I feel like without that DigiCare+ I would not be able to get to the bottom of my health.
With me having such a great experience with using DigiCare+,
it makes the conversation with my client a lot better because they can really see the value of the benefit.

Transcript for video Aviva digiCare+ Domonik's story
The Aviva DigiCare+ smartphone app can help prevent, detect and manage common health and wellbeing problems.
Available with eligible individual protection policies, it offers health and lifestyle benefits, treatment and bereavement support provided by a range of third parties.
It’s separate to the policy agreement, so we may remove it or make changes to it.
Aviva DigiCare+ includes an annual health check, a great way to spot certain problems early on and to help prevent them from becoming bigger issues.
Domonik told us how the heath check helped him during a stressful time in his life.
A 32-year-old financial adviser, Domonik lives near Newcastle with his wife and two young children.
It’s been a tough time for the family. They moved house right before lockdown, and just weeks later their newborn son was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis, spending a week in hospital.
Thankfully he’s made a good recovery, but the stress of their son’s illness, a house move, and the pandemic meant that healthy eating took a back seat for Domonik and his wife.
“It was difficult looking after the kids with everything that’d gone on. We were just literally trying to make life as easy as possible and eat whatever we had…We were feeding the kids perfect meals, they were having vegetables and all the right stuff, but we weren’t …We’d go every night to the shop to pick up cakes and chocolate .”
Domonik had some niggling health concerns, but with no actual symptoms, he didn’t go to his GP. The Aviva DigiCare+ health check helped put his mind at rest.
“It’d just been a very difficult year, we’d not been eating healthily, and both my parents have got Type 2 diabetes, so maybe that was probably one thing at the back of my mind – this is one way to check for it without having to go the doctors.”
The health check, done at home, tests for a range of conditions using a finger prick blood sample. It includes a personalised report and a follow‐up consultation with a digital GP, all accessible through the Aviva DigiCare+ smartphone app.
Domonik’s personalised report showed that, although his sugar levels were normal, his cholesterol was in the moderate to high range.
This was a bit of a shock for Domonik and made him think about his health and being there for his kids.
“I was a bit surprised by how taken aback by it I was… because you’re absolutely right, before I had kids, I mean to get me to the doctors, my arm would’ve had to have been falling off or something like that, you know, I just ignored any medical problem. But now you’re right, now that I've got kids, it's anything that comes up, I'm like, oh, I wonder what that could be and worry a bit more about it than I was”.
“I did start thinking, obviously I need to do something because I want to be around for my kids, I want to see them grow up and things like that.”
After his follow‐up consultation with a Digital GP, Domonik took the doctor’s advice and made some small changes to his lifestyle, including cutting down on cheese!
A few months later a blood test at Domonik’s usual GP confirmed that his cholesterol was back in the normal range.
The health check helped Domonik resolve a problem he wouldn’t have known about had he not taken the test. And, as it’s available once a year, he’ll be able to monitor his progress next time he does the test.
“I probably wouldn’t have done anything if it wasn’t for the app. I probably would’ve just carried on with life ‐ carried on doing what I was doing.”
Finding it hard to find time for exercise, Domonik intends to book a nutrition consultation through the Aviva DigiCare+ app to help him focus on healthy eating.
“I’ve been pretty healthy in the past and exercised and eaten well, but my mind is not there at the moment, I can’t do that at the moment. Having that help, like “right, these are the sorts of things you need to do” – that’s definitely something I want to do.”
Aviva DigiCare+ helped reassure Domonik about his diabetes risk, manage his cholesterol and think about his overall health and nutrition.
