Care that keeps up – changes to our GCI cover

We’re evolving so protection never stands still

In a world where medical science moves fast and customer needs shift even faster, standing still isn’t an option. That’s why we’re constantly evolving—so your clients’ protection keeps pace. We’ve enhanced our Group Critical Illness cover to support even more employees.

From faster claims to broader definitions and more inclusive cover, we’re taking our cover further.

Faster claims, faster peace of mind

We cover several operations, but previously your clients had to wait for the procedure before they could claim.

Now, for six defined operations, payment will be made once the employee is added to the NHS waiting list. We hope this removes at least one worry at an already stressful time by accelerating access to financial support when it’s needed most.

These operations include:

  • Coronary artery bypass grafts
  • Heart valve replacement or repair
  • Aorta graft surgery
  • Pulmonary artery surgery
  • Liver transplant
  • Kidney transplant

Family comes in all forms - so does our cover

Family looks different to everybody, which is why we’ve expanded our child definition to include legal guardianship and surrogate children (where legal guardianship has been granted).

This builds on our previous enhancement to include more child-specific conditions. Helping us support even more families when they need us most.

Taking our cover further

We’ve added necrotising fasciitis, a rare but aggressive bacterial infection to our list of defined illnesses.

It’s a serious condition that progresses quickly, and early diagnosis is critical. By including it in our cover, we’re helping employers offer meaningful support when it matters most. Giving people faster access to financial help during a tough time.

Better definitions, better outcomes

These enhancements aren’t just about new definitions. We’ve also broadened existing ones and removed exclusions to make our cover more inclusive.

Extended definitions:

Exisiting definition From February 2026
Progressive supranuclear palsy Replaced with wider-ranging Parkinson’s plus syndromes
Motor Neurone Disease Now includes Kennedy disease and Spinal Muscular Atrophy

Removal of exclusions:

Exisiting definition From February 2026
Coma Exclusion for medically induced coma removed
Terminal illness Limitation of ceasing age removed
Paralysis of limb limitation on making a 2nd claim removed

No limits

With our GCI cover, there are no limits to the number of times a person can claim. Employees, spouses and children can make multiple claims, helping families get ongoing support through critical illness.

Group Critical Illness - more than just financial protection

Group Critical Illness cover is already a powerful tool in your protection toolkit. Now, with broader definitions, faster claims and unlimited support, it’s even more inclusive, responsive and supportive.
