Aviva partners with Perci Health to enhance cancer care for Income Protection customers
We’re strengthening the practical, clinical and work‑focused support available to Income Protection customers following a cancer diagnosis. Aviva's Rehabilitation Manager, Matt Smith, explains more.
Perci Health provides personalised support from a team of specialist cancer clinicians across both Group and Individual Income Protection claims and we’re delighted to have them on board.
Cancer can affect far more than physical health. It can disrupt confidence, concentration, energy levels and day-to-day routines, even after treatment ends. That’s why this enhanced pathway is designed to support people in a way this is clinically informed and relevant to work - helping customers rebuild their routines and return to work safely and in a sustainable way when the time is right.
Why this matters for employers and advisers
Early, specialist intervention can make a real difference to outcomes. Our existing approach already focuses on making things easier at a difficult time through early engagement, supportive case management and vocational rehabilitation.
And the need is significant: there are an estimated 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK1, and cancer remains one of the main reasons customers request our specialist care.
Introducing Perci Health
Through Perci Health’s digital platform, Income Protection customers who need support following a cancer diagnosis can access:
- Specialist cancer nurses, alongside a wider team of cancer clinical experts
- Personalised support plans tailored to the customer’s needs and treatment journey
- Help with physical symptoms such as fatigue, pain and reduced function
- Support for psychological and cognitive challenges that can affect working life during and after treatment
- Work‑focused rehabilitation, including pacing strategies, functional goal setting, graded return‑to‑work planning, and advice on workplace adjustments
The support is designed to help individuals rebuild confidence, maintain employment where possible, and return to work safely and sustainably.
Who can access the support?
Perci Health cancer support is available to all Aviva Income Protection customers – across Group and Individual Income Protection – who need support following a cancer diagnosis.
It also supports the wider ambition of keeping people connected to the workplace, aligning with the Government's Keep Britain Working objectives.
Please note, rehabilitation services are non-contractual benefits which Aviva can change or withdraw at any time.
How it works
As outlined in our cancer pathway, Aviva’s approach includes early intervention, dedicated case management, access to clinical expertise, and return‑to‑work planning designed to support both the customer and the employer throughout someone's cancer treatment and beyond.
Our pathway recognises that the impact of cancer can continue well beyond the end of treatment, when NHS support may fade and ongoing fatigue, deconditioning and fear of recurrence remain.
That’s why the focus is on practical, sustained support—helping customers improve day‑to‑day functioning and, when appropriate, plan a gradual return to work that reflects their clinical and vocational needs.
Proven focus on work outcomes
Supporting customers back to work (or helping them stay in work) is central to what we do. In 2025, Aviva reports that 83% of cancer survivors receiving support successfully returned to or remained at work2.
