At Aviva we’re redefining our high value protection, to empower advisers and deliver the exceptional experience their high value clients expect.
And I’m excited to show you what’s changed.
By bringing together two expert teams and taking the strongest elements of both propositions, we’ve created something more robust, more focused, and more supportive than ever before.
Let’s begin with service — because in the high value space, exceptional service is essential.
Alongside Aviva’s already strong high value offering, we’re introducing our new Premier Service layer, built specifically for the most complex, ultra high value cases.
Amongst many other benefits, advisers now have a named underwriter and administrator who stay with the case every step of the way.
We’ve also increased our cover capacity and streamlined our processes, now making bespoke pricing quicker, smoother, and easier to progress than ever before.
As for the proposition…
We’ve taken the Aviva proposition and enhanced it, creating a sharper, more comprehensive proposition for your high value clients.
And then there’s expertise.
Advisers benefit from hybrid distribution support for their high value cases.
They also get guidance and solutions training, direct access to expert underwriters, specialist admin support, and in house tax and trust professionals.
And with Aviva, advisers gain access not only to protection specialists, but to wealth and retirement experts too – helping them support clients across their full financial journey.

At Aviva, we’re redefining the way we help you meet the needs of your high value protection clients.
As well as enhancing our service, we’ve made some significant changes to our products, too.
By bringing together the best of our two propositions, as well as drawing on customer insight, and market data, we’ve made improvements in four key areas.
Let me take you through what’s changed.
The first area, new features for IHT planning.
We’ve introduced joint life second event term cover on Life Insurance+, giving you a flexible and cost-effective way to help your clients cover Inheritance Tax liabilities.
We’ve also added a Gift Inter Vivos Benefit. This allows joint life cover to be converted into single life policies without further underwriting.
Second, we’ve added greater flexibility.
We’ve enhanced the Guaranteed Insurability Options on Life Insurance+ by extending life change and separation benefits to rated customers, and we’ve introduced two IHT specific options.
Third, we’re increasing access.
We’ve increased maximum entry ages on both our Life Insurance+ and Whole of Life Insurance+ products to offer cover to more people and support later life planning.
Finally, we’ve enhanced pricing capability.
With greater cover capacity and improved processes, bespoke pricing for ultra high value cases is now quicker and easier to progress.
Added together, with our changes to service, these enhancements align protection more closely with the realities of high value advice — where certainty, flexibility and responsiveness matter.

Rules around Inheritance Tax are complex, often technical, and continuously evolving. And for many clients, navigating them can feel overwhelming.
The most valuable step clients can take is to seek personalised guidance from qualified financial professionals like you. That’s why at Aviva, we’re redefining our high value protection, to support your expertise at every step.
One of the simplest, most effective ways to help clients create certainty around Inheritance Tax is a protection policy written in trust. It can provide the funds they need to pay liabilities quickly, while keeping these costs outside of their estate.
As well as other benefits, our high value protection offers high maximum entry ages and cover limits, so you can build tailored strategies for clients who need later-life solutions or have more complex planning needs.
It’s also built to adapt, whether that’s to changes in circumstances or legislation, offering you confidence in a resilient and reliable solution.
And with market-leading features like Gift Inter Vivos Benefit and IHT Guaranteed Insurability Options, we’re there to help you support gift strategies and help clients manage evolving wealth plans.
Our goal is simple: to help you meet the high expectations of your clients with solutions that work today and continue delivering value tomorrow.
Protection solutions for IHT planning
Inheritance tax planning can create a range of protection needs, from providing for a potential liability on death to covering gifts made during lifetime or supporting wider trust-based planning.
Our whole of life and joint life second event term cover can help clients plan for liabilities that may arise on death or second death, while gift inter vivos and Rysaffe planning can support more specific estate planning strategies.
Tax efficiency
When written in trust, the policy proceeds fall outside the client's estate - helping to reduce the overall IHT liability and maximise the value passed on to beneficiaries.
Cost certainty
With guaranteed premiums, your clients benefit from predictable costs and the reassurance that funds will be available to meet IHT liability when needed.
Faster access to funds
Placing the policy in an appropriate trust (e.g. a Discretionary Trust) ensures the payout bypasses probate. This allows the IHT bill to be settled quickly, helping to avoid delays in distributing the estate.
Certainty of outcome
The cover amount is designed to pay out on death, providing confidence that the intended financial support will be delivered.
Whole of life cover
Whole of life cover is guaranteed to pay out a lump sum payment when the life covered dies, whenever that might happen, and this money can then be used to cover a potential IHT bill on death.
How we can help with whole of life IHT planning
Joint life second event term
We offer a joint life second event (JLSE) cover option on our Life Insurance+ and Whole of Life Insurance+ products.
This pays out only after both lives have passed, making it ideal for IHT planning, where timing is critical. It’s particularly suitable for clients with temporary IHT liabilities, those planning to reduce their IHT liability by gifting assets during their lifetime, or clients who need an alternative to whole of life cover because of affordability.
Gifting strategy support
Products can be converted to a gift inter vivos (GIV) basis, which is designed to help clients manage potential IHT liabilities when making significant lifetime gifts.
Targeted protection
Offers a practical solution for clients who want to ensure their estate can meet future IHT obligations without overcommitting financially.
Affordability
Ideal for clients with significant assets but limited liquidity, JLSE Term can provide essential cover without the higher costs usually associated with whole of life cover.
Gift inter vivos solutions
If your client is gifting substantial amounts of money or assets to a loved one, the recipient may be left with a hefty IHT bill to pay if your client dies within seven years.
Our gift inter vivos solutions help to mitigate this risk by creating five separate life insurance policies, each covering 20% of the total IHT bill, running for a different length of time.
Although these are separate policies, they work together as one solution and you don't need to manage them individually. You only need to complete one application and we'll take care of the rest.
Peace of mind for your client
If something happens to them, their loved ones will receive the amount covered to help fund the tax.
Quick online applications
Get an instant decision with our fast-track underwriting service.
Reducing premiums
As your client’s level of IHT liability falls, their cover will decrease and so will their premium.
Rysaffe planning
The Rysaffe Principle is a legal and tax planning strategy that enables advisers to help clients mitigate IHT exposure by maximising the use of the nil rate band (NRB) through the structured use of discretionary trusts.
- Each discretionary trust is treated as a separate settlement if created on different days.
- Each separate trust gets its own nil-rate band, currently £325,000.
- This allows individuals to shelter more of their estate from IHT by spreading assets across multiple trusts.
By applying the Rysaffe Principle - placing smaller life policies into separate discretionary trusts on different days - each trust is treated as an independent settlement, allowing for individual use of the NRB and potentially avoiding aggregation and associated charges and maximising tax efficiency.
